Abstract:

There are many new features and enhancements in SQL Server 2019. We'll go over bullet points of some features, some benefits, and run through a few demos. Features: Polybase enhancements, SQL Graph enhancements, Linux SQL Server enhancements, Persistent Memory, Data Discovery and Classification, Always On Availability Groups enhancements, Transaction log enhancements, Data Masking enhancements, Compression enhancements, Always Encrypted enhancements, Index enhancements, Query Hint enhancements, Error Message enhancements, Scalar Function enhancements, Table Variable enhancements, Memory Grant enhancements, Query enhancements, Data estimations, and UTF-8 Support. Demos: Scalar Function enhancements, Memory Grant enhancements, and Table Variable enhancements

    Mike Burek has worked with SQL Server for 25 years. Throughout his career, he has often worked with marketing data. From this, he has experience with various tools for ETL as the industry and programming has changed and matured over time. On the SQL Server side, he has held senior positions in database administration and database programming, focusing on optimization, automation, and increasing the value of data. Outside of work, he also runs the Austin SQL Server user group and makes a big effort to train others to help them grow in their careers.
